Embracing Heritage: The Thompson’s Black History Treasury

In celebration of Black History Month, Carmichael Library has curated a display of books, DVDs, eBooks and more. Throughout the month of February, drop by to see the display on the library's main (first) floor lobby or online.

The lobby display will also feature some items from Elvin B. Thompson's collection of rare and antique Black history books and memorabilia. Thompson is a historian who specializes in tracing African American ancestry. He is also the author of "The Blood Running Through My Veins,"the story of the Burns family from the slave plantations of Autauga County, Alabama.

Thompson will be discussing his process of curating the collection in the J. A. Brown Room at Carmichael Library at 3:30pm on Tuesday, February the 27th.

He hails from Montevallo and is the older brother of MLP's and UM’s own Joyce Jones '23, director of community engagement and public service.
