Join Us for the 2nd Annual Montevallo Juneteenth Celebration at George Dailey Park!
The Montevallo Legacy Project is partnering with the City of Montevallo, Shelby Co. NAACP, DRUM the Program, and more for the 2nd Annual Montevallo Juneteenth Celebration. Festivities will take place on Wednesday, June 19th, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at George Dailey Park.
Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when Union General Gordon Granger announced in Galveston, Texas, that all enslaved people were free. Juneteenth is now a federal holiday, celebrated nationwide with festivities and reflections on African American history and culture.

The City of Montevallo highlights George Dailey Park as an important part of Montevallo’s history and culture. “George Dailey Park, located in front of Montevallo Middle School, embodies a rich heritage in Montevallo. George Dailey was the first African American City Council member in Montevallo and is credited for beginning the movement for the City Council to be elected by districts. Montevallo Middle School was formerly Prentice High School, Montevallo's first and only African American high school from 1950-1970. George Dailey was the last principal of this school.”
