UA students from Blackburn Institute visit Montevallo to learn about MLP

On Oct. 28th, the Blackburn Institute from the University of Alabama brought a group of some sixty UA students to Montevallo to learn about the work of the Legacy Project.

Their three-day travel experience ended in Montevallo in the Rotunda at the American Village. MLP President Kathy King and Community Engagement Officer Joyce Jones exchanged stories about the way the Untold Stories and the Heritage Trail work to build community in Montevallo.

Jones and King were impressed with the thoughtfulness and engagement of the Blackburn students. Joyce was humbled by the opportunity to talk to this group of outstanding students.

Earlier, the students had visited the EJI lynching marker on Main Street.

The Blackburn Institute is a leadership development and civic engagement program specifically focused on improving the state of Alabama. Through its work with students, alumni (Fellows), and Advisory Board members, the institute develops a network of leaders who have a clear understanding of the state’s challenges.
