These new markers represent an important step in our ongoing commitment to honor and preserve the rich history of Montevallo’s African American communities.

Officially adopted by the City in August 2022, the Heritage Trail includes markers, plaques, signage, and digital resources that highlight significant sites of Black history and culture in Montevallo and the surrounding area. The initiative seeks to tell a fuller, more inclusive story of our shared past, creating a lasting legacy for future generations.

We invite everyone to join us in celebrating the strength, resilience, and heritage that have shaped Montevallo. This is a moment to reflect, learn, and honor the stories that continue to inspire our community.
