NAACP SCHOLARSHIP
The Shelby County chapter of the NAACP, in partnership with the Montevallo Legacy Project, is proud to announce our annual scholarship program dedicated to empowering future leaders of our community. This scholarship opportunity is open to graduating high school seniors in Shelby County public schools who have demonstrated a commitment to advancing racial justice and the potential to be outstanding community leaders.
Eligibility Criteria
Graduating high school senior in a public school in Shelby County, AL
Active involvement in community service or extracurricular activities
Demonstrated leadership skills and commitment to social justice and equality
Plan to attend an accredited college/university for the 2024-2025 academic year OR to attend a trade school for certification in one of the trades (electricians, plumbers, stylists, truckers, etc) for the 2024-2025 year
Scholarship Details
Awards totaling $5000 will be distributed in amounts to be determined by the Scholarship Committee's evaluation of the applications submitted. In the past, awards were $2500, $1500, and $1000.
Application Deadline: Sunday, February 25, 2024 @ 11:59 pm
Award Announcement Date: Sunday, March 24, 2024
Use of Scholarship: To be applied toward tuition and other costs associated with the first year of post-secondary study.

Provide a 500-word essay on an assigned topic
Provide two letters of recommendation
Provide verification of community service
